Procurement Standards

Procurement courses to be established by the Centre are aimed at developing human capacities that will fill the skills and knowledge gaps that exist in private and public sectors of our economy. Environmental Standards

Social Standards

Effective social standards systems are vital ingredients for healthy growth and development of the society and are invariably a measure of the effectiveness of social institutional structures and general impact of good governance. With a population of over two hundred million, Nigeria is the most populous country in Sub Saharan Africa and the most populous black nation in the world.

From the Center Leader’s Desk

Following a Call for Proposals to establish the Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Centre for Excellence (SPESSCE) through NUC by the World Bank in 2019, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria submitted one of the best proposal's on sustainable procurement, Environment and Social Standards. The proposal addresses areas ranging from applied research, capacity building and risk management.

The fundamental purpose of any government is to ensure the well-being and contentment of its people. This objective can be achieved by enhancing the overall standard of living of individuals belonging to all segments of society. To this end, the government can adopt various measures, one of which is standardization. In present times, there has been a growing emphasis on procurement, environmental management, and social safeguards. Therefore, it has become imperative to develop the necessary capacity and minimum benchmarks to minimize the adverse effects associated with the absence of standards in these three areas.
