The Centre was established as part of the World Bank-supported Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Project, under the coordination of the National Universities Commission, to build critical capacity in procurement, environmental standards, and social development across Nigeria. As one of the Centres of Excellence, SPESSE-CE ABU is committed to strengthening the knowledge, skills, and professional competence of public sector officials, private sector practitioners, researchers, consultants, students, and other stakeholders involved in sustainable development.
At SPESSE-CE ABU, our mandate is clear: to provide high-quality training, research, certification, and academic programmes that respond to national and institutional needs. Through our short executive courses, advanced certificate programmes, postgraduate programmes, undergraduate training, research activities, and professional engagement, we aim to produce skilled professionals capable of promoting transparency, accountability, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and value-for-money in development projects.
Our programmes are carefully designed to address practical challenges in sustainable procurement, environmental safeguards, social standards, compliance, monitoring, and project implementation. We believe that sustainable development can only be achieved when institutions and professionals are equipped with the right knowledge, ethical values, technical skills, and commitment to good governance.
As a Centre hosted by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, we draw strength from the University’s long-standing tradition of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.
