About PGD in Procurement


The Postgraduate Diploma programme is to provide remedial training in basic courses in procurement to prepare graduates of universities or equivalent qualifications of those who did not have first degrees in procurement and related programmes to either pursue postgraduate degree programmes in that field of study or seek employment in the procurement industry.

To broaden and deepen the intellectual exposure of students in procurement so as to develop their capacity to creditably hold managerial positions and undertake research in any of the core areas of the discipline.

Aims and Objectives of M.Sc. programme is designed to: Train and develop prospective managers, academics, researchers and specialists in the field of procurement by providing thorough grounding in the intellectual traditions of the discipline; To improve national economic growth and development by promoting manpower development in Procurement; Foster interdisciplinary teamwork focused on developing and implementing solutions to procurement challenges; and Expose students to diverse perspectives and approaches to problem-solving in the procurement function.

At the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of existing online platforms that promote procurement activities and to effectively deploy Information Technology toward organizational procurement activities.

Philosophy


The philosophy of the programme is to provide students with relevant background, the Knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for success as procurement professionals. It will further arm students with the academic theory and knowledge in the field of procurement.

Aims and Objectives


The Postgraduate Diploma is designed to:

  • Provide understanding of the core courses in procurement
  • Provide knowledge of the basic skills and tools for decision making in the discipline in the private and the public sector.
  • Equip students with knowledge and skills to evaluate and manage the supply base effectively.
  • Provide a rationale for supply markets management given the turbulence in the business environment.
  • Enable students apply the theory of supply markets management in addressing procurement challenges.

Admission Requirements


Provided the basic matriculation requirements are satisfied, candidates to be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma in Procurement must have:

  • Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics at the Ordinary Level (‘O’ level) at not more than 2 sittings;
  • Relevant Bachelors Degree not lower than third Class Division from a recognized University;
  • Bachelors Degrees with at least second class lower Division in areas not related to Administration may be considered;
  • Higher National Diploma at upper credit level; and
  • Relevant professional qualifications.

Duration Of The Programme


The duration of the programme will vary depending on whether it is part-time or Part-time as follows:

  • Full-time: A Minimum of four (2) semesters and a maximum of six (4) semesters; and
  • Part-time: A minimum of six (2) semesters and a maximum of eight (3) semesters

Requirements For Graduation


Requirements for graduation from the Postgraduate Diploma Programme (PGD) are:

  • For full-time Diploma: Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.
  • Part-time Diploma: Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.
  • Minimum of 28 credits units earned, disaggregated into 24 credit units of course work and 4 credit units of project report.
  • Higher National Diploma at upper credit level; and
  • Relevant professional qualifications.
